Plants on the Big Island of Hawaii

by Bob Gillis

Ohelo berries (Vaccinium species) flowering.

Ohelo berries taste like sweet cranberries.

Pods of the Papala kepau (Pisonia species).

The pod produces a sticky substance that the native Hawaiians used to coat branches to trap birds.
