A few details that were left out of the video, plus a few changes:
1. I prefer to use the 18 teeth per inch, 12 inch long, plain carbon steel hacksaw blades. The carbon is already added when the steel is made. It is a lengthy process to add carbon, so we try to start with the right kind of steel.
2. After softening, I cut each 12 inch blade into four 3 inch pieces.
3. The only file you will need for forming the bevel is a fine bastard file.
4. Use a medium grit whetstone instead of a very coarse one to remove the feather edge before hardening. It’s much easier to shape the blade before hardening than after.
5. After hardening and before sharpening, you might do some mild tempering by heating your kitchen oven to 350 degrees F. After the oven comes up to temperature, put the blade in for ten minutes.
