The bow drill was used to create fire. The spindle
and hearthboard were made from a dried plant near the creek called
mule fat. The bearing block was made from a dried manzanita branch.
The hole in the bearing block was lubricated with pine pitch.
The cordage was made from dogbane. All materials were found in
the area.
